Please Don't Break the Internet

I'm not a group-joiner, but I despise censorship, so to show my support for those fighting to protect the internet and our freedom of speech, here's a video to watch:

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

  1. Totally agree with your post. We must fight to protect the freedom of speech on the internet and oppose SOPA!

  2. I wrote to my Senators and Congressman - vote no on SOPA and PIPA...

Just another law that would cause more problems and not fix a thing.

  3. I agree that Protect IP is just a tool of the government and corporations to take control of the internet.

However, I don't agree with certain companies with a 'social conscience' shutting down their websites in protest.

Am I missing something or did they just do what the government is trying to do, and what they're protesting against?

Where's the democracy and social conscience in shutting down their services? Whether it be the government, corporations or individual ISP's the result is the same; we the people are unable to use the internet.

I'm not much of a fighter, but I think we can all do our part to educate people. I didn't know about SOPA until I heard about it on the internet, and then used the internet to research it. Not something I'd probably be able to do if SOPA legislation is passed.

I did the same, Cyn. I also wrote a letter to the FTC, which is one authority I think everyone is neglecting. The FTC had no problem cracking down on bloggers who had deceptive sites; I'm hoping they do the same with the people behind SOPA.

I don't care for the going black aspect of the online campaign, which is why PBW is still up and running. Shutting down is not the way you educate people about dangerous legislation.

I think they intended to show us what the censored internet would be like, and yet I'm pretty sure we all really didn't need the endless demos.

True. But it's easy enough to do, and those who blacked out got a free day off from producing content. No problem here; more readers for my blog. :)
